Frequently Asked Questions
The frequently asked questions lists contain short answers to questions about Hypercosm software that are frequently encountered.

Hypercosm Player
INSTALLATION QUESTIONS
Problem: I’m having trouble installing Hypercosm Player.
Solution: Make sure you have the required security permissions to install software on your computer. If you’re using Windows Vista, you may need to run the program as "Administror" and you may also need to disable User Access Control temporarily in order to complete the software installation.

To run the install software as Administrator, see the article How to Run Programs as Administrator Using Windows Vista.
To disable the UAC, see the article How to Disable User Account Control Using Windows Vista.

WEB PAGE VIEWING QUESTIONS
Problem: When I open a web page using Windows XP, the main 3D section of the web page is blank and I see a yellow bar at the top of the page that says "To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has restricted this file from showing active content that could access your computer. Click here for options..."
Solution: Change your Internet Explorer security settings to allow active content to be viewed using your web browser. For more information on how to do this, see the article How To Allow ActiveX Content Using Internet Explorer on Windows XP.

WEB POSTING QUESTIONS
Problem: When I post my applets to my web site and view them with a web browser, I see an error dialog box that says “There was a problem downloading the applet src file”.
Solution: First, confirm that all of the files in the exported applet directory were successfully uploaded. If all of the files are present on the server, then the problem is that the server is not delivering the Hypercosm applet file to your web browser. Some servers are restricted to send only a restricted set of known file types which does not include Hypercosm applet (.hcvm) files by default. To remedy this problem, you will need to add a new "MIME" type to your server's configuration so that it recognises Hypercosm applet (.hcvm) files.

To learn more about how to add a new MIME type to your server, see the articles:
How to Add a New Mime Type Using Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS)
