The frequently asked questions lists contain short answers to questions about Hypercosm software that are frequently encountered.
Problem: I'm having trouble installing Hypercosm Teleporter.
Solution: Make sure you have the required security permissions to install software on your computer. If you're using Windows Vista, you may need to run the program as "Administror" and you may also need to disable User Access Control temporarily in order to complete the software installation.
To run the install software as Administrator, see the article
How to Run Programs as Administrator Using Windows Vista.
To disable the UAC, see the article
How to Disable User Account Control Using Windows Vista.
Problem: I can't install Hypercosm Teleporter - it complains about not having 3ds Max installed.
Solution: Install 3ds Max before installing Hypercosm Teleporter.
Problem: I can't figure out how to run Hypercosm Teleporter - it doesn't show up in the "Start" menu after I install it.
Solution: Start 3ds Max and run Hypercosm Teleporter from the "File>Export" menu as shown
here.
Problem: The scene I've exported is slow, choppy and unresponsive in the player.
Solution: The polygon and/or object count in your scene may be too high. Try reducing the polygon count in your scene to under 100,000, and your object count to under 200.
Problem: My scene takes a very long time to download, or the applet takes a very long time to start.
Solution: Your applet's textures may consist of image files that are too large or too numerous. Find the largest image files in the "applet\resources\textures" folder in your exported applet's directory. See if you can find a way to reduce their size or eliminate them from your 3ds Max scene, then re-export. Also be sure to check your polygon and object counts.
Problem: My textures don't look right.
Solution: Make sure you are using a supported material type. Use a standard material with either a diffuse map or a specular map (but not both).
Problem: I've made a texture with some transparency, but it doesn't look right in the applet.
Solution: When possible use .PNG files for textures containing transparency. If you experience abnormal results, try toggling the .PNG mipmap setting in Teleporter's Textures tab, or toggling your two-sided texture settings in the Shader Basic Parameters section of 3ds Max's material editor.
Problem: My applet is very slow and the lighting seems much darker than it should be.
Solution: Don't use more than 8 lights in your scene.
Problem: When I email the web page exported by Hypercosm Teleporter, it doesn't display the 3D part.
Solution: You need to email the entire directory of exported files, not just the .html file. See the article
How to Email Web Pages Using Windows XP.
Problem: I'm using the free version of Hypercosm Teleporter and I don't see a way to change the skins.
Solution: This feature is only available in the "Pro" version of Hypercosm Teleporter. More information about the Pro version of Hypercosm Teleporter for 3ds Max is available
here.
